The End of EonCraft

Hello EonCraftians,


As you may be aware the server has come to a hault over the past few weeks, a number of events have taken place to bring the server to a hault like this. Me and Ort no longer have interest in Minecraft it's a great game full of endless possibilities and creativity but there is a point when you feel you have 'over-played' a game. A few real life events have taken place also leaving (me at least) with little time to play the game. I'll be moving soon and also going to University and it will certainly be chaotic.


The community we have here is great and it's so much fun for us to play together, lot's of people have quit the server sadly because of the changes we were going to make to EonCraft during the 1.3 update. As the server is not going to get the attention it deserves we have decided to end the server. We hope this post explains enough of the reasons for this decision, it is a true shame the server never made it to it's peak with the amount of potential it had to offer. 


We hope that you will all remember the good things, and learn from the bad. We are honored and proud for the trust you all put in us, we feel priviliged to have had the honor of leading EonCraft for as long as we could. The forum will remain open, if you wish to join servers with others and reminisce. If you have any questions then feel free to email me '[email protected]'

MC 1.3 will have Editable Books!

Hi all, I don't know if you guys keep up with MC news and development, we as server owners sure do.


The latest MC development snapshot (they release those every week) reveals (besides LOADS of bug fixes) that MC 1.3 will finally have vanilla support for editing books.

As of now, I (Ortwin) have no idea how this is going to work (hopefully requiring a feather and inc-sacks, maybe ink in a glass bottle?), but we will be looking for a way to convert all the books we have written into the new format. 


Other additions/fixes include multi-wood-color slabs (finally), and they now actually act as wood (in stead of stone).

If you want to try it out, you can download the development .jar from www.mojang.com, if you do not know what to do with this .jar it proves you should not be messing with it.

(please note that you will not be able to connect to the server if you use this dev version, keep backups)


EDIT:

Ok, this is how it works in the snapshot release:

Crafting a book will now require a piece of leather.

If you want to write a book you need to combine it with a feather and an inc sack

It is unknown if you can place written books in a shelve.

All the ingredients are renewable, that means there is a new market for leather, feathers and inc! (why do chickens only drop 1 feather???)


Another note: Know that MC 1.3 is still VERY far away, we'll be using 1.2.5 for several months, the above changes are only fraction of the changes 1.3 will bring.


Unexpected downtime (FIXED)

Hi all,


This is what we got from our server host, I took out the IP for safety.


 

We are experiencing an outage on *IP here*. We will update this incident as we get more information from the DC.

22:41 GMT - We expect this server to be back online within 30 minutes. A fsck is being performed on the server

00:52 GMT - Server back online. In case of addit.ional incident please open a support ticket.


As you can see we could have had the server back up around 1 am (Matts time, 2 am my time) but we were already asleep. We apoligize for the downtime.

edit: after some thought, I figured this: The 'crash' happened around 16:00 (my local time, it ruined my evening), that means that somewhere in the pacific (Japan perhaps) it was already Friday the 13th! We can blame that!

The 1.2.4 Map

Hello all,


I (vvmattozzvv) have been having trouble with addding the 1.1 spawn into the new map, I have been trying hard but can't seem to get it 'right'...I understand all of your frustration so I have launched the new map! You spawn on the mountain range that will have spawn added to it. No one can build here or nearby and mobs can't spawn, just make your way out of spawn and there you can build. Hopefully it will be done in the next few days.

1.2.4 Progress Update!

Hello everyone,

This morning I (vvmattozzvv) updated the majority of our plugins to 1.2.4 and now the server is running on that version, however a few more things are needed to be done.

To do:

 

  • We need a MySQL databse (For LogBlock) Velox are taking a while in giving us the details....  edit: DONE (check the ticket Matt :))
  • The new map and a plan for spawn.
  • A few not very important plugins.
  • More role-play aspects.

Hopefully this will be done soon.

 

Why is this taking so long????

I'll tell you why:


1) Half bugged plugins, because not all authors invest in updating time for mere 'beta' releases of Bukkit (our servermod), even though the new release schedule is based upon beta's (those plugin devs are lazy/misguided).

2) A stubborn MySQL database, but thats mostly a little frustrating for me and Matt, is supposed to be fixed this week

3) uncairtainty over the future of MC ("Wait...? WHAT???). Yes, because Minecraft 1.2.4 will be released this week, including a LOAD of bugfixes under the hood (The Bukkit team is hired by Notch, and they are doing a great job optimizing MC). This will obviously lead to another incompatibility wait-time until Bukkit --and most-delaying: the plugins-- will need to be updated.

1.2 update progress

Hi all, here are some quick notes on the 1.2 update progress.


1) There is a beta version for our server software, this is considered semi-stable, but its up to the plugin devs if they will update for this or not.

2) Almost no plugins have updated for 1.2 yet, though most of them have been keeping up with the last fixes, so there is a decent chance they still work (but that will require time-consuming testing, we'll get back at that)

3) the following plugins will most certainly NOT work, for various reasons

- no temp bans (only permanent... so you better behave!)

- Shops

- Mob-bounties (needs an urgent update) found an alternative! and this one is updated with the latest mobs

- no multiworld teleportation (though that can be circumvented, the actual plugins that provide the multiworld probably still work)


This was just a quick let-you-know we are on top of things, we'll run tests & monitor the situation closely.

(PS, the arena and spleef plugins HAVE been updated already :D ;)


Wednesday 7th test results: Testing on local server with basic plugin setup, got some errors, too little time tonight, testing will resume tomorrow morning.


Thursday report: Yay, the test server now is plugin-capable, and I put a few basic ones in place. Be aware the server itself is running on beta software, and half of the plugins are early releases as well, bugs are bound to be present (lava-firespread protection doesn't work for example).

fridag/saturday notes: OrtwinS has a concert to give, plus all the mumbojumbo around it. little to no time to work on the server.


sat 17th: Basic security is in place, but having trouble finding a perfect spawn spot...

Old server has been shut down for deconstruction.

Minecraft 1.2 happenings

Hello all!


The obvious news is ofcourse that MC 1.2 (1.2.2 actually 1.2.3, thanks sean) has been released!

Please do NOT update yet, since you will not be able to play on our server, we run modded server that allows for plugins for money and stuff, and those need to updated as well. (Any timetable we could give you would be a gamble and a guess, please be patient, and we will keep you posted.)


That brings us to the even bigger news:

The Bukkit team, (the guys who program our modded server, for FREE, so we can have plugins and improved server stability) are now OFFICIALLY joining with Mojang (Notch' company) to make Minecraft officially server-mod-capable!!!

This awesome news means that for future MC updates there will be a lot less wait time for the server to update! (please keep in mind its still possible for induvidual plugins to need a fix for a new version, BUT since mojang releases snapshots 'n stuff those developers should have plenty chances to fix their sh*t before the actual update). MC 1.3 is expected to become legendary...


And for the occasion, Mojang has stated they are going to help the Bukkit team with the 1.2 update, so this update is supposed to go smoother already!

Our 1.2 Snapshot testing server - OPEN

Hello EonCraftians!


We now have a public 1.2 pre-release server open for the public! The latest snapshot came today rather than the scheduled thursday and in this update this is what is included:

  • Added new world file format called “Anvil” (256 max height and 4096 block IDs*)
  • Multi-player light calculations do no longer cause affected blocks to be transmitted to the clients, instead the clients will recalculate the light on their own
  • Villagers will repopulate villages based on how many houses there are available
  • Some nights in villages will be worse than others…
  • Added a redstone-controlled light source
  • Decreased chance for the rare mob drops
  • All animals use the new AI system now

 


To get the client version download the jar file here and install it.

On windows: Start>Run>%appdata%>Roaming>.minecraft>bin and add the file to there.

On Mac: I forgot? A mac user would be much appreciated!
